Medals for Nurses had communications with the Western Australia Minister for Health, Dr. Kim Hames requesting him to implement the creation of a Western Australia Nursing Service Medal. He responded with “That acknowledging {nurses} with a medal may not be well received by the nurses".
To prove to the Minister that nurses would like to have their service recognised, we have set up a campaign to have nurses, their families and friends and the general public to send a letter of support to the Minister. We are asking him to use his authority as the Minister of Health, to authorise the implementation of a “Western Australia Nursing Service Medal” for Diligent and Ethical Service, after ten years and a Bar/clasp for each subsequent five years of service.
In addition a letter will automatically be sent, requesting that the Minister of Mental Health Helen Morton, Shadow Minister of Health Roger Cook, Shadow Minister of Mental Health Stephen Dawson, the Chief Nurse Karen Bradley and the Western Australian branch of the Australian Nursing Federation, use the authority of their positions to support the Minister of Health in authorising the implementation of a “Western Australia Nursing Service Medal” for Diligent and Ethical Service
